Skin Type 101: Understanding Your Unique Needs for Flawless Results

Skin Type 101: Understanding Your Unique Needs for Flawless Results

If you want your skincare routine to produce significant results, you need to make sure that every single step in that routine caters to your skin type. This way, the products that you’re using will be able to give your skin all that it needs.

If you aren’t quite sure what your skin type is or how to tailor your routine to suit it, read on – Venofye is about to explain!

Determining Your Skin Type

There are a few different techniques out there for determining skin type. However, one of the fastest and easiest is to simply assess how your skin looks and feels 30 minutes after it has been cleansed. Use a mild cleanser, such as the Blossom Bee Clarifying Cream Cleanser, before patting your face dry and then leaving it bare.

After 30 minutes, it’s time to closely observe your skin to see which of the following skin types it falls under:

  • Dry Skin – If your skin looks dull or flaky, or feels tight and itchy, then this means that you most likely have dry skin.
  • Oily Skin – If your skin looks shiny and greasy, then your skin type is likely to be oily.
  • Combination Skin – This skin type consists of a combination of dry skin and oily skin. It’s usually the T-zone (meaning the forehead, nose, and chin) that takes on an oily finish, while the cheeks tend to be dry.
  • Sensitive Skin – If your skin feels uncomfortable and itchy while looking red or inflamed, then this is a sign of sensitive skin.
  • Normal Skin – If you haven’t noticed any of the above issues, or if they’re present but only very minimally, then congratulations – your skin type is normal, which is the rarest of them all!

Now that you know what your skin type is, scroll on to discover how best to look after your complexion.

Dry Skin

Dry skin occurs when the skin doesn’t produce enough sebum. This is the natural oil that not only keeps the surface of the skin moisturized and lubricated but also prevents the skin’s moisture content from evaporating into the air. Without enough sebum covering the surface of the skin, moisture evaporates at a much faster rate, meaning that dehydration commonly accompanies dryness.

Due to the lack of sebum, dry skin usually also suffers from an impaired skin barrier. This leaves dry skin susceptible to a number of other concerns, including premature skin aging. This can then make dry skin even drier – research shows that once the skin starts aging, it naturally produces less sebum.

So, what can you do about all of this?

Your main priority should be to keep your skin as moisturized as possible. Moisturizers designed for your skin type will be rich and relatively thick. Not only will they give your skin an instant hit of moisture but they’ll also seal off your skin’s surface, essentially mimicking the role of your skin’s sebum.

If you have dry skin, we’d recommend turning to the Venofye Blossom Bee Day Moisturizer each morning. It’s the perfect way to set your skin up for a busy day. The humectants in this formula, including glycerin and betaine, will bind moisture to your skin. Meanwhile, the shea butter will lock all of this in while also keeping your skin feeling supple with its plethora of fatty acids.

In the evenings, swap your day cream for the Blossom Bee Quenching Night Cream. It boasts a similarly exquisite formulation as our day cream but in a thicker blend. Since moisture loss increases overnight, this cream will help to ensure that your skin feels soft and smooth come morning.

Oily Skin

Oily skin sits on the opposite end of the skin type spectrum from dry skin. While dry skin doesn’t produce enough sebum, oily skin produces too much.

This not only gives the skin a greasy sheen but also greatly increases the chance of clogged pores. With so much extra oil gathering on the skin’s surface, it doesn’t take long for some of this to delve down into the pores, where it then mixes with dirt and other impurities to form a blockage. Once bacteria ends up in the mix, inflammation occurs, resulting in acne breakouts.

If your skin type is oily, your focus should be on keeping your skin as grease-free as possible. This all begins with a good cleanser. However, don’t be tempted to go for the strongest and most powerful cleanser that you can find. While removing every single drop of sebum on your skin may seem like a good idea, this can often stimulate the skin into increasing sebum production, leaving you oilier in the long run.

Instead, opt for an effective but gentle cleanser, like the Venofye Blossom Bee Clarifying Cream Cleanser. Not only will it thoroughly cleanse your skin, but it also contains a number of hydrating compounds. At the same time, the inclusion of chamomile, calendula, and lavender extracts will soothe the feeling of inflammation and irritation, keeping your complexion calm and clear.

In addition to cleansing twice a day, you should also be exfoliating your skin a few times a week. Exfoliants dive in deeper than cleansers, meaning that they’ll be able to remove any impurities that have already started working their way into your pores. The Blossom Bee Facial Peeling does this beautifully, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and detoxified.

Combination Skin

Since combination skin consists of two skin types in one, it can be tricky to care for. One option would be to invest in two sets of skincare products; one for dry skin and one for oily skin. You would then need to apply your different products to the corresponding areas of your face.

However, not only is this time-consuming, but it can also get pretty expensive! Therefore, a more realistic option would be to look for products that hydrate and moisturize dry skin while also rebalancing and mattifying the look of your oily areas. This way, you’ll be able to use these products all over your face rather than having to relegate them to certain areas.

One such product would be the Venofye Blossom Bee Facial Toner. If your skin type is combination, adding a toner to your routine would be a very wise move. This formula is all about hydrating the skin, which will benefit both your oily and dry areas. At the same time, its bee venom infusion will brighten and revive your complexion, leaving your skin looking radiant.

Finding a moisturizer that’s suitable for combination skin is a little more challenging. That’s why the Venofye Beehive Silk Cream is such a hit. With algae extract, sodium hyaluronate, and glycerin, it’s exceptionally hydrating. It also contains a long list of antioxidants, including vitamin A, vitamin E, green tea extract, caffeine, and rosemary leaf extract. These ingredients will help to repair the look of skin damage while ensuring that your skin cells feel capable of functioning to their full potential.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is the most reactive skin type. Various environmental stressors can quickly lead to sensitive skin feeling irritated and inflamed.

This occurs due to an impaired skin barrier. Caused by a variety of different factors, a skin barrier that isn’t functioning in the way that it should won’t be able to protect the skin from external irritants, hence the sensitivities. These external irritants vary from person to person. Some are triggered by pollution, others react to certain skincare ingredients, and so on.

To counter this, your skincare routine should contain products that leave your skin barrier feeling thicker and stronger, just like the Venofye Iron Bee Transforming Cream does. This formula contains oat protein, which gives the skin barrier a bouncier and more resilient feel. It’s also infused with aloe vera leaf extract, which is loved for how it soothes the complexion. Regular use will calm the feeling of sensitivities to leave your skin looking bright and balanced.

Another product that would work well with your skin type is the Venofye Beehive HydraLift Mask. It’s brimming with superfruit extracts, from acai to bilberry to pomegranate. Each of these botanicals will flood your skin with antioxidants. In turn, these will work to soothe and replenish your complexion, helping your skin to feel less sensitive in the long run.

Normal Skin

Wrinkle Corrector

If your skin type is normal, you’re in the minority. However, this is a great place to be as it means that you’re unlikely to suffer from the various skin concerns that other skin types have to deal with. Sure, you may experience them in small amounts but, with the right care, you’ll be able to keep your skin feeling healthy and looking flawless.

Having a normal skin type also gives you more freedom when shopping for skincare products. Rather than seeking out formulas designed for your skin type, you can instead focus on any other visible skin concerns that you may be dealing with.

Take the Venofye Blossom Bee Advanced Wrinkle Corrector, as an example. If your skin has started to display the visible signs of aging, this specialized solution will help to turn that around. It’s packed with a potent blend of vitamins, peptides, and plant extracts that will immediately smooth away the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Of course, even though your skin type may be normal, it’s still important to keep your skin moisturized. This is something that every skin type, including yours, needs. To do so, we’d recommend trying out the Venofye Apitoxin Collagen Cream. This standout moisturizer is packed with a number of hydrating compounds, including beta-glucan, sodium hyaluronate, and soluble collagen. It also contains small amounts of malic acid and lactic, both of which are alpha-hydroxy acids. They offer a mild exfoliating effect to give the skin a bright and radiant glow after each application.

Summary

As you can see, each skin type is very different, making it no surprise that the needs of each one vary quite significantly. Understanding your skin type, along with how this influences your skin’s requirements, will go a long way in ensuring that you’re able to put together an effective skincare routine that’s capable of giving you the flawless complexion that you have been seeking.
